German Web TV Hearts MintyForest

After our Neat-o-Rama appearance last week brought hundreds of thousands of visitors to our MintyForest.com photo project, we were delighted to discover that we have just been featured on Ehrensenf - Germany’s most popular web video blog! (Oddly enough, this is the same show that attempted to send my fellow minty-photographer Nina and my friend/her husband Danny to Plano, TX back in 2006 when they let the internet vote on where they would move.)

Still, we are thrilled to have all the German photo-enthusiasts! You can watch the clip by clicking the linked image below — we come on around minute 2:00.

For those non-German speakers, my friend Tyler Mark has put together this super-quick, literal translation:

Not behind on another, but rather set next to one another, you can take a look at the pictures of Minty Forest — a project by two photographers where every day for a year they have published a photograph without consultation, with, for the most part, fully different but also to some extent astonishingly similar motifs.  And an equally interesting photographic comparison to see is found in N.Y. Secrets, namely the New York from 1961 compared with the New York of today.  Yes, and much there has actually not changed . . . OK, the time of the golden trashcan is for the most part in the past.

Looking Glass Arts :: Summer Workshop Designs

April 22nd, 2009 Josh Shayne Posted in design | 1 Comment »

Last summer I taught a 3-week summer filmmaking intensive to high-school film and acting students in association with the non-profit arts organization ‘Looking Glass Arts.’

While I will not be able to return as an instructor this summer due to scheduling conflicts, I was thrilled when Looking Glass contacted me to produce these promotional materials for their 2009 workshop.

I tried to incorporate Looking Glass Arts’ vibrant colors and showcase how professional and hands-on their unique program actually is. If you know anyone in the Boulder/Denver area of high-school age interested in film, acting or composing, I highly recommend their workshop.

MintyForest: One Year in Photos x 2

We recently wrapped up MintyForest.com — a 365 day daily photo project.
This is one of my favorite combos:

While it can be a bit harrowing to take and color correct a photo EVERY SINGLE DAY (not to mention the thousands of unused shots), there is something magical about it too. Especially when you can look back over a year and visually digest how much actually happens in that time — people coming and going, new haircuts, moving, parties and weddings, seasons changing, vacations, broken camera lenses…

It has particularly been a pleasure working alongside Nina Barry — she is a talented + enthusiastic photographer and placing my photos next to hers each morning was always delightful and revelatory. It is really surprising how often we were in sync — her creative vision and eye for framing most certainly raised our project to a whole new level of awesome.

Oh! Be sure to check out the Random Photo Pairing Generator — there are 133,225 possible combinations!

This is a portrait I created for the website of Sam Reich - the very funny and talented director of original content at CollegeHumor.com as well as the director and one of the stars of their new show on MTV. Sam provided me with a photo of himself as a reference. view Sam Reich’s website here.

NutritionBikes.com Business Card

Below is a Business Card I designed for NutritionBikes.com — a website that specializes in providing nutritional supplements for high-performance athletics. I wanted to incorporate bicycling into the design but with a strong, green-health flavor. I created the bicycle illustration myself.
